Seen any black cockatoos lately?

Baudin’s Cockatoos to be released
In May several rehabilitated Baudin’s Black Cockatoos will be released. In the lead up to this event, roost sites for these cockatoos need to be identified as the rehabilitated birds will be released at a roost. People in the Albany and surrounding areas have been actively looking for and reporting roost sites.

What has been found is that Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos are the cockatoos currently being seen around Albany. It appears that Baudin’s have moved away from the coast at this time.

Sam Rycken from Murdoch University will be undertaking the release.

Baudin’s and Carnaby’s are hard to tell apart.  The call is probably the best identifier.  If you want to hear their calls, follow this link to listen to the differences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAM26Ff9arQ
