Future-Ready South Coast: Empowering Farmers to Navigate Climate Change and Strengthen Natural Capital
This project runs from 2025-2028 and utilises the strengths of Torbay Catchment Group’s (TCG) skills and experience in working with farmers and landholders in the Torbay Catchment to deliver revegetation, access control (fencing), management of water points for stock, stock crossings and delivery of community/stakeholder field days and training/workshops to support South Coast NRM’s and Climate Smart Agriculture’s project outcomes of:
- Farmers have adopted one or more practice change to reduce carbon emissions, improve carbon storage in vegetation or soils, improve climate resilience, or improve natural capital and biodiversity on their farms.
- Farmers will have increased their awareness and understanding of innovative on-farm water storages through local demonstration sites for reduced evaporation and improved water quality.
- Farmers will have increased their awareness and understanding of the tools and techniques that improve their ability to respond to climate variability.
The project builds on TCG’s existing local relationships and partnerships with farmers and understanding of their concerns and requests for actions and training. The project will both provide targeted new and add value to existing and previous projects by adding additional and complementary revegetation, access control including fencing and stock crossings and management of water points for stock.
