What a great presentation by Birdlife Australia’s Dr Sam Rycken on the endangered Carnaby black cockatoos.
We learnt about the Carnaby’s habitat, breeding cycle, the importance of nesting hollows both natural and artificial and how Sam’s project is helping to ensure this iconic bird’s future.
This was followed by a fun and educational cockatube building workshop with Landcare SJ’s Francis Smit, where we built 16 cockatubes all ready to be installed in the local area.
Thanks to Sam and Francis and all those who came along.
