It was a great morning to install some cockatube nesting hollows, creating vital habitat for EPBC species, in particular the endangered Carnaby cockatoo.
Most natural hollows are around 80yrs old, occurring on trees of around200 years, which are becoming increasingly rare and so we need to help by providing artificial nesting hollows.
The Carnaby black-cockatoo is a Commonwealth endangered species under the EPBC Act and is now considered ‘likely to become extinct’ in the wild.
The good news is we have had successful breeding in our area using these cockatubes! Stay tuned for some positive news of new arrivals.
Thanks to State Natural Resource Management Program WA for making this possible.
